The PGA player of the year award is a golf award that dates back to 1948 and is awarded by the PGA of America. Using a points system with points awarded for wins, money list positions and scoring averages, a winner is selected.

This year the winner of The PGA Player of the Year Award went to Jim Furyk.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JIM FURYK for winning the PGA Player of the Year, an award given by the PGA of America. Furyk earned 60 points under the PGA’s points system. Matt Kuchar and Steve Stricker each collected 50 points. Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson tallied 46 and 42 points, respectively.
Furyk ended a three-year drought when he won the Transitions Championship in March. That was just the beginning for the 40-year-old. He went on to capture the Verizon Heritage in April and the season-ending Tour Championship, making it his first three-win season in 18 years on the PGA Tour. He also won the FedEx Cup and its $10 million payoff. It was a career year for Furyk, and the player of the year award caps it off.
Kuchar won the Vardon Trophy, which is given to the player who has the lowest adjusted scoring average and has played a minimum of 60 rounds. Kuchar had a 69.61 scoring average. Stricker was a close second at 69.66.
In 2009, Tiger Woods won both the PGA Player of the Year Award and Vardon Trophy.
Ben Hogan won the inaugural PGA Player of the Year Award in 1948. Harry Cooper was the first recipient of the Vardon Trophy (named for British great Harry Vardon) in 1937.

PGA Player of the Year Award

Trying to come up with the ideal gift for a golfer this holiday season? Is your office planning a Christmas gift exchange? Consider making a golf gift basket. It is so simple, the golf products are easy to find and it is always a hit!

Selecting the gifts is the easiest part. Choose high-end golf balls, tees and ball markers to start off. You could choose books about golf or a biography of a famous golfer. Golf mugs, golf shirts, golf hats, water bottles and towels will make great gifts. You could also add a hand held golf game or chocolates that are in the shape of golf balls for a fun addition. If your budget allows, you could add a gift card to a pro shop or complementary tickets to a golf club.

Choosing a basket style is relatively easy, too. Choose one with either one handle on top, side handles or perhaps one without handles. Make sure that it is large enough to hold the gifts you have selected. The color of the basket should be a neutral tone or wicker to complement the golfer’s home.

Using shredded paper to fill the basket will help the gifts to fit snugly into the basket. If you would like, you could wrap each gift with golf themed gift wrap. Place the basket in the center of a large sheet of tinted cellophane gift wrap, and pull the sides up around the basket. Tie the wrap at the top with colorful ribbon.

Homemade gifts are always extra special. Making one for a golfer is not only fun to receive it is fun to give.

Hole in One!! Few golfers, even professionals, have achieved this victory in their golfing career. It’s such amazing feat that when it is performed, everyone seems to forget the competition and find themselves rejoicing! For the golfer that made the shot, it’s an amazing experience and a moment that will be remembered forever.

If your company is hosting a golf tournament, remember that nothing would please your guests more than to see someone receive a hole in one commemorative trophy. You may already be planning to have golf awards for the winning team, but this special accomplishment should not go unnoticed.

Hole in one trophies are available in a variety of styles. From simple hand crafted wooden trophies to gorgeous etched glass that encases a lone ball mounted on a wooden base.

Take a moment during your golf tournament to recognize and bestow the honor upon the individual who made a hole in one shot. Everyone will love this and for the golfer that made the shot, you are giving him something that he will treasure and look at for years to come.

It’s a staple no golfer can do without. If you are looking for a golf gift this holiday season, take a moment to inform yourself about the different features you may be looking for in a golf bag.

Organization is always the first feature you need to consider. Whether competing in a tournament or having a fun day out with family or friends, you’ll need to consider how many extra balls and tees the golfer will want to store. Will they be carrying a divot tool? Are there extra pockets and compartments for other accessories? The largest bag, called a staff bag, is the biggest of the golf bags with enough compartments for the clubs and other accessories. Cart bags are generally smaller with less pockets but sometimes can be bulkier. Cart bags are intended to be carried around in a golf cart. Carry bags are the smallest. These are perfect for golfers who like to carry their own bags because they are light. Carry bags are designed for a golfer who only wants to take his clubs, a few balls and a few other smaller accessories.

Protection is another key feature to consider. Golf clubs are an expensive investment and need to be in excellent shape each time a golfer takes to the greens. Some golf club bags come with long tubes to insert each club in for added protection. This helps keep the clubs from banging into each other and potentially causing damage. These tubes also help with keeping the clubs organized.

If you expect your golfer will want to travel with their clubs, a travel golf bag would be an excellent choice for a gift. There are many great travel bags that are made with lighter material, have interior tie-down straps to keep the bag secure, provide shoe and accessory pockets, and are equipped with a protective bottom. Travel bags also come with either padded shoulder straps or wheels for easy portability.

Considering your budget and features that will suit your golfers needs are what to consider as you head out shopping this holiday season. Getting the perfect golf bag by suiting it to your golfers needs, will be getting them the perfect golf gift.
