Businesses Using Golf as Team Building

Sunday, January 23rd, 2011

Working for a company is like belonging to a team. Each employee understands what is expected of them, what they need to do to make the company function properly and the rules to follow to do their job well. In essence, to win!

How can a company improve the performances of their “team”? By team building. Companies have long since been using team building to bring out the best in their employees in terms of positive communication, leadership qualities, control issues, and the ability to work closely together as a team and trust one another to solve problems.

A truly fun exercise for team building is organizing a golf day. With people on a team that have different skill levels each person will bring something different to the table, just like at work.

Playing a Scramble format means that each person takes a hit on each shot and then it is determined which shot is the best. This goes on until the ball drops into the hole. Each team counts the number of strokes it took to get the ball in the hole and the team with the lower score wins. All members contribute where they are the strongest with some being able to hit the best drives and others being better at putting or chipping. This is the same type balance you are trying to achieve in the work place.

Presenting golf awards both serious (1st, 2nd, 3rd place team) and humorous (shortest drive) will add to the fun of the day and provide even more positive reinforcement within a team. Building inter-personal relationships between employees with a day on the greens will allow employees to take what they learned from each other’s strengths and weaknesses and be able to apply them to the day to day operations in the office.

Ladies Golf Gifts

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

If you have a lady golfer in the family, there is no shortage of golf gifts you can get for her. From golf clubs, golf balls and tees to a pink golf divot repair tool and even wine glasses with a golf theme, you will be able to find both fun and useful golf gifts for your golfer.

Think about personalizing some of her favorites. Personalized golf gifts will always be treasured. You could have her name embroidered on her golf bag, golf gloves or golf towel, for example. You could find personalized golf picture frames and albums for her to put her favorite golf photo in. Is she a tea or coffee drinker? A personalized golf mug will become her favorite cup in the morning.

If she is just starting out, you could give a gift card to a local golf club for lessons or a pro shop for some functional but fun clothing, shoes and accessories. You could purchase books on golf or give her a one-year subscription to a lady’s golfing magazine.

As more and more women venture out onto the greens for a round of golf, there are now many golf products geared specifically for them. Shopping for the lady golfer in your life should now be an easy task…have fun!

LPGA Tour Championship Highest Honor in Golf Awards: Player of the Year

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

ORLANDO – The LPGA Tour Championship is more than just a season finale this year. There are razor-thin margins that could decide player of the year honors and the top spot in the world rankings, adding plenty of intrigue to the tournament that begins Thursday at Grand Cypress Golf Club.

For the first time in a decade, Lorena Ochoa and Annika Sorenstam won’t win player of the year. That leaves five in the field with an opportunity to take home the LPGA’s top honor.

“We have got big pressure,” said Jiyai Shin, who begins play with the top spot. Shin also has a little added pressure.

Shin and Na Yeon Choi have a chance to be the first Koreans to win player of the year. They’ve also noticed more Korean media than usual this week lining the fairways and greens for every practice stroke, and interview requests back home are at an all-time high.

“It will be my dream come true if I get the award,” Choi said.
